Building in town historical centers is never easy, we need to understand local culture, adapt our construction to existing context and bring a modern breath. We are invited to build a place dedicated to music in Jerusalem. To match with Israeli lifestyle and local climate, we designed a building where people can appropriate space from inside to outside.
The project is located in Jerusalem historic downtown at the corner of two major axes. Programmatic adjacencies included national facilities (an amphitheater and an auditorium) with neighborhood amenities (like a music academy).
To connect HaAtzmaut garden with our project on the other side of the street, we planned a green path on the building roofs. The design experimented the duality between inside and outside.
We adjust the building proportions by burying half of the auditorium and designing classrooms in the amphitheater’s sub slope.
The project is focused on music. Users can enjoy acoustic melodies inside of the auditorium and outside throughout amphitheater’s staircases.
Jerusalem has a warm temperate climate. The city benefits from significant temperature fluctuations because it’s located on a mountainside. The architectural process optimized climate conditions to deliver a livable building any time of the year.
